Ammonia Compressor Oil 68

is a very highly refined mineral oil from which all free wax, dirt, sediment and other deleterious impurities are removed. This a product formulated to outperform conventional mineral and naphthenic refrigerant oils

Ammonia Compressor Oil is an inhibited paraffinic circulating oil specifically developed for use in reciprocating and rotary screw compressors in industrial refrigeration systems using ammonia or carbon dioxide. Ammonia Compressor Oil is specially formulated to resist degradation when exposed to nitrogen compounds and acids formed when compressed ammonia comes into contact with the oil and condensed water. It has excellent oxidation resistance and thermal stability at high temperatures to minimize sludge and varnish formation, and provide long service life. It has a low pour point for use in ammonia refrigeration systems used for sub-zero cooling. It has excellent water-separating properties to minimize the formation of emulsions, protects system components against rust and corrosion, and is resistant to excessive foam buildup that can interfere with proper lubrication. Ammonia Compressor Oil meets the performance requirements of major manufacturers of ammonia refrigeration compressors. It is not recommended for use with CFC, HCFC or HFC refrigerants such as Freon®-12, Freon®-22 or R-134a. COMPRESYN® NH3

Partial-Synthetic, FG-H1 Food-Grade, Naphthenic-Compatible, Ammonia Refrigeration Compressor Oil

Product Description

Compresyn® NH3 is a novel, new, patent-pending, naphthenic-compatible ammonia refrigeration compressor oil formulated for extended life performance in all systems currently using naphthenic-based refrigeration oils. In addition, it is FG-H1 compliant for food plants requiring H1 food-grade approval. These fluids are virtually wax-free and are formulated to be suitable for ammonia and most halocarbon systems.

Performance

The designs of refrigeration compressors place unique demands on refrigeration oils. Compresyn® NH3 provides outstanding performance for the following refrigeration compressor lubrication requirements:

The oil must not form wax deposits in refrigeration passages at low evaporator temperatures.

The oil must remain stable when exposed to high compressor-discharge valve temperatures.

The oil must not react chemically with refrigerant gases.

The oil must have specific properties on miscibility with the refrigerant. This is critical to optimum performance of the compressor, since the extent of miscibility affects the viscosity of the oil/refrigerant mixture.

The oil must have good insulating properties and be free of moisture because of contact with motor windings in hermetic designs.

Compresyn® NH3 exhibits excellent characteristics in the typical measurements for high quality naphthenic refrigeration oils including:

Flocculation Point, R12—A 10% solution of Compresyn® NH3 in Refrigerant R-12 is cooled in a sealed tube, and the temperature at which a wax flocculant appears is noted. The floc point of Compresyn® NH3 is below -51°C (-60°F). This test ensures that wax will not precipitate from the refrigerant solution to form deposits in critical passages.

Pour Point—This is a measure of the lowest temperature at which the oil will flow. The test has particular significance for systems where the refrigerant (such as ammonia) and oil are completely immiscible. In such systems, any oil reaching the low-temperature side is refrigerant-free and the oil’s pour point is the sole determinant of the oil’s fluidity. The pour point of Compresyn NH3 is -49°C (-56°F).

Dielectric Strength—This is a measure of an oil’s ability to withstand electric stress and is indicative of the presence of contaminants, such as water or particulates. Compresyn® NH3 is carefully controlled to ensure high dielectric strength (30+kV) and product dryness.

Base Fluid Advantages

Compresyn® NH3 is a unique blend of naphthenic white oil and alkylated naphthalene synthetic base stocks. This combination provides all of the expected benefits of and compatibility with naphthenic-based refrigeration oils, and adds the long drain capabilities and oxidation stability and resistance of synthetic fluid performance.
